Saturday's Curves and Cocktails event

That's me holding one of my new Curvy Girl Cards. (From Masque Magazine's site)

Sorry for the delay on the recap. I had to finish up a Organizational Behavior paper I had due. :P
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As usual, I was running a bit late. Wardrobe malfunction. I just could not find a thing to wear. I wanted a red shirt but couldn't find one that fit right. (Seven weeks into a workout routine and my body is still figuring out where it wants to be.) So I find an old halter top...not my first choice but I really didn't think I should go for anything where the "girls" would be on display. I'm selling paper here, okay.

I didn't know quite what to expect. Not only was this my first time as a vendor at this type of event, it was my first time attending one. Plus I had been saving my new Curvy Girl collection to be launched special at Curves and Cocktails.

What can I say...Aja and crew did their thing!

The location was perfect. Intimate but bright and a perfect backdrop for the variety of vendors present. My girl Yania was selling her fabulous jewelry across the room where it twinkled in the sun. Fellow vendors and customers were friendly even some introduced themselves while browsing my table. I spent alot of time speaking with fashion consultant and designer, Darryl Jagga, who was my table neighbor. You really need to look at his design book and he specializes in plus sizes. TO DIE FOR.

I admit I had a moment where I was a bit starstruck. First Maddy Jones of Plus Model Magazine stopped by my table where she was joined by Mia Amber Davis. Aaack!!! She is like one of my plus size model idols. (I promise I'm not a perv, Mia, but you are even more gorgeous in person.)

I also had the chance to meet quite a few people in the blogsphere including bloggers for Luvin My Curves, Masque Magazine, and Style Without Limit. All added to my Twitter and Google Reader.

Best part, the end of the day old school mix by DJ Stealth. Good music always make cleaning go fast.

Great vibe, great food, great fun! And oh yeah, great selling day too! Hey when you can make money and have fun, its "A Good Day".

I made sure to let Aja know I'm available for any event she wants me. And I absolutely mean it. Great show, well organized, and great people. Would definitely work with them again.

Sometimes spell check isnt enough...

Pretty card right?

I printed this card four times today and didn't catch the typo.

It's "Khalil" Duh!!! **slaps head**

Back to the drawing board.

Its a Blog Hunt!!!! Tag You're It!!!

Found this on Design Crush, who found it on M. Writes.

This was not easy, I follow alot of blogs. I have to leave a few answers blank and think about it.

Link a blogger who...

has an online shop: Bangerang Bake Shop -- I admit I never had one but they look so yummy and I love the cupcake in a jar concept.

takes fantastic photographs: Positive Thinking Everyday - I met Deirdre last year. A great photgrapher. Pictures leap off the page.

has a new baby: Making It Lovely --- No baby yet. She's overdue. I like to catch up on how the house renovation is going.

has flawless taste: Tha Hotness -- Myisha has such a great eye

is unique: Lemoncholy's Flight of Fancy -- Kecia is such a sweet and warm person, and truly gifted. I learn alot from reading her blog about art and generousity of spirit.

has admirable qualities:

crafts up a storm: Pulp Sushi -- everytime I check Marilyn's blog she's posted new stuff

is an artist: Faerie Enchantment - Another mixed media fave and she's a Jersey Girl.
is intriguing: The Sunday Night Poop - Another of my online friends, Giselle. She looks innocent but she's as witty as they come.

you've bookmarked: Rickey.org --- I don't follow reality tv but I can catch up on all the performances of "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Dancing with the Stars" here. Rickey is fabulous!!!!

lives far away: Creampuffs in Venice -- Yummy food porn!

is an old favorite: FashionMista --- I've been following Katie for years. I remember when she was just Katie James. Now she's an old married lady

is creative: AJKArtistry --- Alison is a fellow papercrafter and artist. We use similar materials and its always interesting to see how we interpret things differently.

features fabulous ideas: Whip U --get working on those projects.

features loveliness:

features pretty products:

features fantasticness: Mental Floss -- Sue me. I'm a nerd...anything with random info I'm on it like white on rice. I love stuff like this.

features weddings: Snippet and Ink --- Inspiring...I bookmark my favorite weddings

writes about life: Martha Is My Homegirl --- That's my online homie, Micki. We've never met in person but we've been buds since 2001 when we met on a now defunct
bridal site. We both didn't marry our Mr. Wrongs and we are happy we didn't! LOL
is a daily must see: Clumps of Mascara -- Now this lady knows makeup, she demos everything and states the facts, good and bad
tells great stories: The Misadventures of Mama and Jack -- Found this last year, so many of her escapades remind me of mine with my daughter.
is funny: Crunktastical -- its such a car wreck, you can't look away. I know better than to read this buffonery but sometimes you have to see how the other half live and shake your head. Warning: Not always safe for work viewing.
is a designer: Everyday Is A Holiday - Love the vintage style
works a letterpress:
you are inspired by:
Folding Trees -- of course I would like. It's about playing with paper.
recently added to google reader: Etsy Stalker --- just discovered this one when checking my stats
gives fabulous tips: Tip Junkie - Great giveaways and ideas
I post treasuries not just because I'm in them which is fab but because the artists I'm featured with are really great!

Can I introduce you to a future star...Jana Kennedy of Knickers and No Fur Coat

One of my favorite things about vending at shows is meeting other artists. Sometimes a website doesn't do justice to someone's craft and their spirit. This past weekend I had the pleasure of sitting across from Jana Kennedy of Knickers and No Fur Coat. Gorgeous accent and wonderful personality. Her personality is as much of a draw as her beautiful lingerie with a retro feel. And she's does custom work. That's always great to hear especially for curvier girls like me. I love the pinup look. She's sells her knickers in person at Artist and Fleas in Brooklyn.

Tomorrow, April 18, 2009...Artists and Fleas Brooklyn!!!

Check me out from 12 to 8 pm at Artist and Fleas in Brooklyn, baby!

129 N 6th Street
Brooklyn, NY11211

Nice, nice...

Actually I will be in BK all weekend...more details about Sunday tomorrow!

Danielle or Dani?

My friend Micki of the fabulous blog, Martha is My Homegirl, called me yesterday to catch up.  During the conversation she called me Dani and then caught herself and said Danielle.

"That's right you don't like Dani. Sorry girl."

If you've ever read my blog or Facebook or MySpace or any number of places I post, you know I have a thing about being called Dani.  What's my thing?  I hate being called Dani or Dan or some version of Nellie or Yellie (Yes someone tried to call me that in high school), lol.  Most guys I know shorten it to Dee at some point, too.

**sigh**

I'm Danielle.  My mama doesn't call me by nickname and my dad's nickname for me will remain a closely kept secret due to the sheer embrassment of what it is.  I do however realize that people can't help but resort to nicknames because for them its an endearment.  So if you've called me Dani and I haven't taken your head off, its because I know its done with affection and love.

So Mick, you can call me Dani.

And my mom's friend, Judy, you can call me Dani too.

And my boy EJ, you can call me Dani.

And a few select other people can call me Dani without me flipping out.

**sigh**

It's all love.

I'm really pleased with this...

I don't always post projects I'm working on but I really liked how this card came out. I'm trying something different with the layout of my cards and I think I like having more cardstock showing.

I'm getting official for the summer shows!!

My banner arrived today!!! Yay!!! Just in time for Artist and Fleas, Saturday and Go Green Greenpoint, Sunday.

Useful Tools for Etsy

Etsy Hacks
This is a collection of Greasemonkey scripts for Firefox that tweak how Etsy looks and works in some useful ways. You will need to download and install Greasemonkey before you can use Etsy Hacks. Among a long list of features include a printable receipt enhancer, copy listing, item zoom, bulk image uploader, renew listing from item page, and more.

Let's Ets
This tool pulls the information from your shop and formats it for uploading to Google Base. Etsy recently retooled their RSS feeds to make them Google Base friendly, but Let's Ets is much easier to use.

Etsy Fee Calculator
Of course you could do the math out for yourself to figure out what $0.20 + 3.5% of an item's price works out to, but this is much faster. This one can even calculate with Paypal fees as well, making it an easy way to work out exactly how much of each sale you get to keep.

Heartomatic
Before Etsy implemented Google Analytics support, this was the best way to check your Etsy stats. Even now it's still useful as a quick check for real-time views on newly listed items and to see who has marked your shop or items as favorites.

Quick way to see if you're in an Etsy treasury, either featured or alternate.

Think you hit the front page? Here's a Flickr group with images of past front pages.

I Want Muscles all over...

Alright, well this is week six of the fitness regime. This month I added weights to the treadmill. So I'm doing pecs and abs. This morning my friend asked why would I do pecs since I'm female. I said so my breasts could sit up. (I wear a 46H in bras)

He said "Danielle, they already sit up!" My response, "Well after my belly gets smaller they won't have anywhere to sit anymore." LOL. "They gotta stand on their own!!"

So I've been concentrating on getting my muscles in order. Last week I was fine...no pain...but today...oooh wee!!! But hey its all worth it in the long run.

Have I lost gobs of weight...no.

But I said from the beginning that this is not a temporary thing to lose weight. This is a lifestyle change. I've lost about 5 pounds but I can see my hips are slimmer and I have more energy. And though I didn't make my weight loss goal, I did make my goal of staying consistent and that is a bigger achievement to me.

So for further inspiration, I'm going to let Diana sing it...

Every now and then I score an Etsy treasury

Verdi Prati (Verdant Meadows)

http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list.php?room_id=52413

The colors reminded me of a meadow. My first year as a music student one of my practice songs was Verdi Prati by Handel. I still remember this song partly because when you hear it, you can visualize the scene in your head.

Hey what could it hurt?

Mensa is the largest, oldest and best known high-IQ society in the world. It is a non-profit organization open to people who score at the 98th percentile or higher on a standardized, supervised intelligence test.

I ordered it a few weeks ago and it showed up today. I think it would be a coup but then I wonder how I would feel if I don't get in. Oh well, we'll see how I do on this practice test.

No Fat Girl Flea for me!

Unfortunately, the little girl came down with a cold so we're staying in today. So my fellow fatshionistas if you're in the city, check it out, shop, get your bargains, and pray for me in hopes I don't get puked on today.

My Easter Ornaments arrived too!!!

I participated in a great swap hosted by Kecia of Lemoncholy's Studio. 17 participants were charged with the task of making Easter themed ornaments. They arrived today and my daughter and I spent a while placing them on my little white tree. For better details of each ornament, please visit Kecia's blog. All so different but very beautiful!! Thanks so much, ladies. I'm so honored to be in good company.

I really have to remember what I pre-order

And sometimes "That's A Good Thing." Arrived in today's mail. Sweet!

Hot, sexy, plus sized? What?!!!

I am always so pleased when I find a designer specializing in sexy plus sized clothing. This dress is by Qristyl Frazier Designs. Even in blue, its hot. Must bookmark now.
