Resting and Regrouping

If you came out to see me today at Brooklyn's Eco-Art Fair, you probably couldn't find me.  I was whipped and took a pass at vending at today's show.  I'm ending my summer selling season a bit early to focus on the kid, rest before classes start, and regroup the business.  I will be back selling in person beginning late September.

For now, I have a bit brewing.

First up, I'm planning a tea party for the little girl. My daughter is for the most part a real angel.  She has a fresh mouth moments but she's a good kid.  Her birthday falls in February and its really hard to plan a party at home during the winter months so I decided to throw her an end of the summer tea party.  More details on that in another post.

Second, you may have noticed some changed back and forth with the design of the site.  I've been wanting to redesign the look of the site, blog, and *new* store.  Yes, I'm going back to having my own online shop off Etsy.  Etsy is a wonderful tool but I think having a separate focused shop is essential to good business.  My Etsy shop will still carry my overflow.  Also you may also notice some non-paper products popping up.  These are all changes being made for the fall. More details on that to follow.

And finally fall brings back the return of school for not just my daughter who's entering second grade but also for me.  Second year grad student...it still sounds weird to me.  That first year went by quick.  This semester Java Programming and Enterprise Database Design.  I signed up for two other classes but I won't be taking those.  The database class I feel confident about.  I'm a db admin now but that Java class... *sigh*  I find programming soooo boring.  I have to put myself on study schedule to make that happen.

So sorry for the delay in my catch up.  My pc got a nasty bug a few weeks ago and is currently dead.  I have only been able to ping.  Don't want to tempt fate by posting during the day.  My Blackberry is also acting funky so hopefully my new phone and XP disks will arrive this week so I can be back to work.

If you have contacted me about custom work, I will be available hopefully during August.

I didn't know it was Marvin the Martian's birthday!!!

Marvin is one of my favorite Looney Toons.

The Quick 10: Happy Birthday, Marvin the Martian!

via mental_floss Blog by Stacy Conradt on 7/23/09

q10

Marvin the Martian crash-landed on our planet sixty-one years ago tomorrow. Maybe he's your favorite and maybe he's not (I would be in the latter category), but there's no doubt that he's one of the most beloved Looney Toons characters to many fans. Happy almost-birthday, Marvin, and please wait to destroy Earth until I'm no longer on it.

marvin

1. Marvin was invented because Bugs Bunny had already outwitted a loud, obnoxious blowhard whose follow-through wasn't that great: Yosemite Sam. Animator Chuck Jones decided that what Bugs needed was a foil who was just the opposite of the red-headed hillbilly: quiet and soft-spoken, but super destructive.

2. Marvin's debut on July 24, 1948, was in the animated short Haredevil Hare. Bugs is chosen to explore space, and when he gets to Mars, he discovers this strange little creature plotting to blow up the earth. At this point, Marvin didn't have a name – or at least, we didn't know it. See for yourself, and take note of how different Marvin's voice is – Mel Blanc changed it after this appearance.

mars

3. Marvin's uniform is based on the uniform of Mars, the Roman god of war. You can see the resemblance, right? But instead of the impressive feather plume on top of the helmet that the god is often depicted wearing, poor Marvin has to make do with the head of a push-broom. No wonder he has such a complex!
4. He has a girlfriend – or at least, there's a female Martian he wishes was his girlfriend. Her name is Queen Tyr'ahnee, and alas, she doesn't love poor Marvin – her heart belongs to Duck Dodgers. She's voiced by Tia Carrere.
5. He also has a dog, which you already know if you watched the whole Haredevil Hare video. He goes by the clever name K-9, and if he looks suspiciously like Pluto who has eaten some bad potato salad, that's because he is rumored to be based on the famous Disney dog.

marcia

6. Trying to destroy Earth runs in the family, because on Tiny Toon Adventures, Marvin's niece Marcia serves as his apprentice. Duck Dodgers shows up to battle Marvin, of course, and brings along Plucky Duck as his own little sidekick. By the end of the episode, though, Marcia and Plucky get sick of their elder counterparts fighting over the universe and run off to play.
7. Marvin has some unexpected fans – Ludacris among them. In his song "Mouthing Off," Luda says, "Yo, I am goin' to blow up the Earth with my 'pew-36 explosive space modulator," which is a reference to Marvin's weapon of choice. T-Pain name drops the whole thing in "Time Machine": "Illudium PU-36 Explosive Space Modulator, Goin' on a trip I be back home, boy I'll see you later."

rover

8. NASA seems to appreciate Marvin, even if he is rather obsessed with destroying our planet: his likeness has appeared on both the Spirit and
Opportunity Mars Exploration Rovers.
9. If you're a fan of destructive little dude, you're in luck – the WB announced last year that they are working on a full-length film about Marvin's attempts to make Earth go kaboom during the Christmas season. Sounds suspiciously like How the Grinch Stole Christmas to me, but something tells me Marvin may not be persuaded to love the Earth quite as easily as the Grinch switched over to the Who side. He has been trying to get rid of us for more than two millennia now…

10. Speaking of which, have you ever wondered exactly why Marvin is so hell-bent on blowing up or otherwise destroying the Earth? In case you've never caught it in one of the cartoons, the answer is that Earth blocks Marvin's view of Venus.

Is Marvin one of your favorite Looney Toons characters? If not, who is? I think you all know that I would take Disney over Looney Toons any day, but I do have a certain affinity for Gossamer and Wile E. Coyote.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wile E. Coyote is actually my favorite Looney Toon.

Damn it I shouldn't be so damn sexy!!

Recently one of my old card playing buddies contacted me online.  We exchanged some pleasantries and I jokingly mentioned that if he missed me so much why didn't I get an invite to his wedding last year.  His response caused me flame up.

You see, his best man and I used to be involved...11 YEARS AGO. **sigh**  His friend is...let's just say alittle enamored of me...oh forget it...he's a stalker....that's the truth, lol.  We had a major falling out...11 YEARS AGO and I have not wanted to engage in conversation with him since.  Unfortunately every time we cross paths, HE wants to engage in conversation with ME and he's aggressive about it.  **sigh**  Now I'm not nasty. I'm polite but I'm not going to play the role.  If you did me dirty, I'm not going to smile up in your face.  If I don't want to be friends with you, I don't have to.  I don't want to pick up where we left off...damn it was 11 YEARS AGO. Ain't nobody thinking about you.

So my friend tells me I didn't get invited because he was afraid I would lose my temper because HIS FRIEND WOULDN'T LEAVE ME ALONE.

Okay...

#1. If your friend is going to bother me, shouldn't you talk to him about his behavior and what's appropriate.  I haven't spoken to him in 11 YEARS. Get.a.clue.

#2. I would have been there with my beau.  And there's no way, this stalker would have thought to speak to me while I'm sitting next to 6'2", 300 lbs of bald, smartass, and evil. He's not that aggressive. LOL.

#3. and most important, I have more class than that.  I'm not going to cause a scene especially not at a friend's wedding. If his friend wouldn't leave me alone, I would leave.

So honestly, I was insulted and pissed to be blamed for his friend bothering me.  You know the situation so why is it my fault your buddy is extra?  So his response earned him a Facebook block.

**sigh**

Can we grow up children?

Etsy Greetings Craft Space Makeover - Update 4

I haven't forgotten about cleaning up my craft area.  I just got a bit sidetracked.  Well I put my extra art supplies on a little side table at my show this past weekend.  I sold quite a bit but I still have alot left. As I was sorting through my supplies, I realized how often I buy things because they are on sale vs. really liking them.  Out of over 20 skeins of yarn, I only kept three.  Half of my stamp collection went in the clearance box also.  And stickers...oh they need to have Stickers Anonymous for people like me, lol.

I'm planning on putting them out again for my show this week and next.

I have no idea what to do with this hair!!!

I relaxed it yesterday and burned my face yet again. **sigh** Too busy being busy. You can't see how red it is in this picture. I was debating dyeing it black again but everyone hates when I go dark. My natural haircolor is a sort of mousy brown (referencing Lucy Ricardo). It looks pretty in the summer when it highlights but mostly its just dull brown. Please forgive the pic, I'm sans makeup, lol

Sometimes life gets alittle blah...so I decided to spice things up

The past few weeks have been like that for me. I've had quite a few shows the past few weeks and have shows this weekend, next weekend, and the weekend after. Honestly the craft/art show circuit has been slow and has forced me to reevaluate my product offerings.

I love what I do but I want to branch out more so I've been quietly designing and redesigning my curvy girl line and I'm really starting to see where I want things to go. These designs are just a few of the new line launched at the recent Curves in the City Shopping Soiree.

I'm working on placing the cards at different shops. We need alittle more self love. :)
